Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Treatment in South Kensington

Sleeping well at night is extremely important for maintaining good physical and mental health. Yet so many people (and consequently their partners) are unable to sleep peacefully, suffering from snoring, restlessness and, in extreme cases, choking, transiently stopping breathing as their airway collapses (obstructive sleep apnoea).

People who have disturbed sleep, with difficulty in breathing comfortably, and / or suffer from snoring, may be helped by wearing a jaw (mandibular) advancement splint at night. At Queens Gate Orthodontics we can offer help with these problems and use mandibular advancement splints invented by orthodontists.

This is a Somnowell appliance, which pushes the lower jaw forward, moving the tongue away from the back of the throat, reducing snoring.

Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Treatment

Case report 1: Correction of extreme snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) using a Somnowell appliance.

Problem:

Richard suffered from OSA. He didn’t like using the continuous positive airway pressure machine (CPAP) and was referred by a respiratory physician to see if a mandibular advancement splint (MAS) would work. Richard’s sleep apnoea was waking him up 30 times a night and his snoring was impacting both his and his wife’s sleep. He felt tired all the time and was often grumpy; it was only in hindsight that he realised just how poorly he had been sleeping.

Solution:

Richard was referred to Queens Gate Orthodontics, where he was recommended a Somnowell which he believes has transformed his life. Now that he and his wife sleep right the way through the night, Richard has much more energy. He appreciates that the Somnowell is comfortable and non-intrusive and he likes that it can’t be seen from the front.

He was over the moon with the results and shared these screenshots of his Snore Lab readings before and after using the Somnowell result which show a dramatic reduction in the noise of his snoring.

Case report 2: Severe snoring, significantly disturbing the sleep quality of his girlfriend

Problem:

Freddy snored loudly at night, which was disturbing his girlfriend’s sleep quality. She found it to be “a real problem”.

Solution:

On the recommendation of his father, Richard, Freddy came to Queen’s Gate Orthodontics for a Somnowell appliance, which he thinks is “fantastic”. Freddy found that it stopped him snoring immediately, without disturbing his ability to sleep and now his girlfriend gets a better night’s sleep! She’s really thrilled, and Freddy feels better too. “All round it’s been a really good success”.
